The Association for the Advancement of Knabstrupper Breeding in Holbæk County
The
Association for the Advancement of Knabstrupper Breeding in Holbæk
County saw the light of day at the stud farm. The association was
founded in 1947 and during the years that followed, efforts were made
to maintain stud books along with other breeds. An agreement with the
Frederiksborg Association seemed to fall into place, when the
association required 7/8 purity to be able to certify stallions. This
was, however, not possible to produce, which meant no certification of
stallions. The association therefore chose to certify horses
themselves.
Even throughout the years of a decline in horse
breeding caused by mechanization, the association remained optimistic,
as it was still possible to sell the Knabstruppers at a fair price.
However, things almost came to a complete stop at the end of the 1950s,
when Herman Nielsen died, the stud farm was sold and mechanization took
over.
In 1962, several of the members chose to enter their horses
for certification in the newly started Danish Sports Horse Breeding
Association (DSA). Descendants from these horses have, as the years
have gone by, slipped into DSA and Danish Full-blood.
In 1969
after 3 years of activity standstill, a general meeting was held for 7
interested parties. The decision was made to “…keep the spotted
Knabstrupper and as such attempt to refine it into a great horse.”
